The relay began on Friday morning in the Shanghai Museum Square, following a minute of silence in memory of the quake victims. Zhuang Yong, a swimming champion at the 1992 Barcelona Games, was the first runner.
4 earthquake rescuers are scheduled to carry the torch during its two-days in the city. Donation tables have been set up along the route, so that spectators can contribute to relief efforts.
On Saturday, the relay will cover over 130 kilometers in 4 districts. After Shanghai, the torch will move on to Jiangsu province.
