With flags waving and lion dances, Macao welcomed the flame of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games on Friday night. It's the first time that the Olympic flame has travelled to Macao.

Chui Sai On, secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao Special Administrative Region, and several other officials of the Macao Olympic Committee attended a welcoming ceremony at Macao's international airpor

Cui Saion, Secrectary of Macau Social Affairs & Culture, said, "Of course, we hope for a successful completion of the Olympic torch relay on Saturday, and also that all of our people will welcome the torch with their hearts filled with excitement and happiness."

The torch is set to run its Macao relay on Saturday afternoon. The three-hour relay will pass through the city's best known tourist sites, such as Lotus square and the ruins of Saint Paul's Church.

The flame will also board a traditional dragon boat to return to the starting point at Fisherman's Wharf for the wrap-up ceremony. A show and fireworks will then be staged to mark the historic moment.

A total of 120 torch-bearers will participate in the relay. After Macao, the flame will leave for Sanya, on the southern tip of the island province of Hainan to continue its journey through China.
