Tours Introduce:A Temple of Confucius or Confucian Temple is a temple devoted to the memory of Confucius and the sages and philosophers of Confucianism.
The largest and oldest Temple of Confucius is found in Confucius's hometown, present-day Qufu in Shandong Province. It was first built in 478 B.C. According to legend, Confucius' former residence was used as a temple and a memorial ceremony was held annually. After the Western Han Dynasty, Confucius was worshipped by emperors of different generations, so Confucius Temple became larger and larger. Presently it consists of 3 halls, 1 pavilion, 1 altar, 3 ancestral temples, 2 side houses, 2 main rooms, 2 dwelling places for fast, 17 pavilions and 54 gateways, with an area of 21.8 hectares.
