reed flute cave

Known as a Palace of Natural Art, it's definitely worth taking a guided tour at the reed flute cave if you have the time. It is located at about five kilometers northwest of the downtown of Guilin. The cave got its name from the verdant reeds growing outside it, with which people make flutes.

Inside the cave is a spectacular world of various stalactites, stalagmites and rock formations. Palace, Dragon Pagoda, Virgin Forest, Flower and Fruit Mountain and other are interesting name. For some of these names, you need to use your imagination, but the story behind each is quite fun. It's a pleasure to listen to romantic or fairy tales whilst appreciating the fantastic stone formations. Both the stories and the lighting add mystery to the scene. The length of the Reed Flute Cave is 240 meters, whereas the tourist trail inside the cave can be as long as 500 meters. One trip lasts about one hour.

At present, there are 77 stone inscriptions through the ages inside the cave. After the discovery and the opening of the cave in 1959, a lot of tourist installations such as restaurants, a teahouse, waterside pavilions, a pond and a zigzag bridge have been established here.

Since the cave opened to the public in 1962, lots of tourists have visited it. Now the cave is one of the main tourist spots in the area.
