Tours Introduce:Standing on the western bank of the Li River, Folded Brocade Hill lies in the northern part of Guilin city. It’s so named because layers and layers of multi-colored rocks one atop another suggesting a great pile of folded brocade. And the name of the hill was read early in a Tang prose entitled ”Note to the Piled Silk Hill”, saying “The hill forms layers of interwoven rock pieces as though they were piece of different colors, Hence the name of the hill. Covering an area of 2 sq km, the hill consists of Yuyue Hill, Siwang Hill (Look-on-All-Direction Hill), Crane Peak and Bright Moon Peak. Many charming buildings and natural scenes such as Diecai Pavilion, Diecai Archway, Windy Cave and Cloud-catching Pavilion are scattered on the hill.
The Wind Cave runs from north to south halfway up the hill, with a cool breeze blows inside it in all seasons. The hill became well-known during the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907) 1000 years ago. It is also famous for 90 Buddha images of the Tang and Song Dynasties, as well as dozens of ancient stone carving inside.
At the top if the Bright Moon peak is cloud-catching Pavilion. It is the best spot to get a bird’s view of Guilin city. From here looking in the east, you can see mountain Yao and Seven-star Park: In the south, there are Solitary Beauty Peak, Wave-subduing hill and Elephant Hill. Here you can see the Li River winding through the city, a picturesque scene vividly described bu a line of a well-know poem: ”a river flows coiling the city while thousands of pinnacles tower around the city”.
